The current administration of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCOFR), re-awarded contracts for the rehabilitation and dualisation of the Ajaokuta-Benin road in February 2025. This move, initiated by the President, is part of his Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth across the country.

The contracts awarded are categorised into three sections along this route:

  • Section II: Okene to Auchi (63.70km) — This section was awarded to CGC Nigeria Ltd.
  • Section III: Auchi to Ehor (54.224km) — This section was awarded to BUA Construction Nigeria Ltd.
  • Section IV: Ehor to Benin (67.9km) — This section was awarded to CBC Nigeria Ltd.

Section I: Obajana to Ajaokuta (78km)—awarded to CGC Nigeria Ltd was initially awarded by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, along with the other three sections. While Section I is ongoing and active, the other three were re-awarded by the current President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
